ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

Irena

Irena, is a retired psychiatric nurse who has always been interested in the workings of our minds. Born in Poland after the Second World War,during the communist regime, Irena experienced poverty, food shortages and lack of freedoms that we in Australia can not imagine.

Irena came to Australia as a refugee and discovered an abundance of food, material possessions, freedoms previously denied,  the company of friendly and relaxed people and of course beautiful weather, It was like “going from hell to heaven.”However, with all this abundance and freedom Irena was still not able to find happiness.

It was at this point that Irena started to question:

Where does happiness really come from?

Stress and the inability to find any satisfaction lead Irena to find yoga, meditation, ancient teachings and the wisdom especially offered by Tibetan Buddhism.

After attending a 10 day Calm Abiding Meditation retreat in 2006  Irena discovered what she had been looking for all her life; that to be happy we must train our mind. To transform the mind, from self-centeredness to compassion, anger to love, confusion to peace, and sadness to joy.

What Irena discovered was so precious that she decided to attend a training course and she now teaches others the priceless wisdom of Calm Abiding Meditation. Irena has now been facilitating meditation courses for the last 12 years.
